Inform yourself about the issues.

• Read our local newspaper, The Mercury, either the hard copy or online.

• Review our Web site.

• Review the Web sites of Pottstown Borough and the Pottstown School District.
Official minutes are available on these Web sites.

• Councilman Greg Berry posts an excellent Web site called Fiscal Responsibility Pottstown.

Attend Public Meetings

Both Pottstown Council and the Pottstown School Board meet twice a month.  All such meetings are public.  Both bodies have one regular meeting each month, at which votes are taken and public comment is permitted (3-minute limit).   Each group also holds a “Committee-of-the-Whole” meeting for discussion.  Public comment is not permitted at these meetings.

Here are the 2009 meeting schedules of Pottstown Council and the Pottstown School Board. Because meeting dates are sometimes changed during the year, we suggest you check the dates on the Web sites of Pottstown Borough and the Pottstown School District.

Considering running for office or supporting other candidates.
It’s not easy being an elected official, but these are the people who make the decisions.  There’s nothing wrong with politics – that’s how democracy works.

When Theodore Roosevelt was advised that gentlemen didn’t engage in politics, he replied that “it merely meant the people I knew didn’t belong to the governing class – and I intended to be one of the governing class. If politics proved too hard-bit, I supposed I would have to quit, but I certainly would not quit until I had made the effort.”
